Caint Cheard
This project was submitted to the ISTD award in April 2008. The project was to celebrate language in its local form and I chose to look at 'Shelta', the language of the Travelling community. Given the high rates of illiteracy amongst it's speakers there is little record of 'Shelta'; the content was gathered from the Irish Folklore Museum in UCD and consisted primarily of a series of tapes recorded by Padraic Green between 1912 and 1932. Given the complexity of the languages construction I applied a very strict set of typographic rules and a balanced and proportioned grid to further facilitate the accessibility of the content.
